Music exists in our everyday lives. We hear music almost everywhere we go, when we ride home,when we surf the net, when we attend mass and we hear music inside or heads. But how does music affect our emotions and thinking?

CLASSICAL MUSIC
Most pregnant women have the connotation that classical music can be of great help to improving the brain function of their babies as they are forming inside their mother's womb. Many people, even those in he medical field, agree with this belief. As classical music is soft to the ears and is soothing all at the same time, it is very likely to help people relax and think more efficiently. It is the MUSIC IS PEACE part of our life. Most people who are stressed out are advised to play classical songs at their leisure time. Students are also encouraged to listen to this type of music for it uses soft and calm words and sometimes contains only the accompaniment, like that of Mozart's. This prevents the student from getting all boggled up with the music's lyrics and that of which he or she studies. Music aids a lot in a person's concentration. It comforts the nerves of worries and negative imaginings, it emancipates a person's tranquil side, it soothes the soul. It helps people bring out the serenity in them. With today's fast-paced and complicated ways of living, wouldn't you want to try listening to some classical music?

A song will not be that famous if not for its creator.

That’s one thing about composing, you will be able to express your feelings, your aspirations in a very artistic way and be appreciated for its beauty. It is like having the power to create something with the aid of your own talent and skills.

Some composers always attribute their song with their own inspiration in writing. Even the political and social happenings around them can make good songs. At times, it’s their chosen medium to express their desire for change, to open the eyes of the listeners to the current situation of the society.

This is how music can serve as a mirror of our own history. Like in the middle of martial law, many songs regarding people’s hardships and struggles paved the way for some of the most famous songs in the Philippine history of music. The term Protest Songs were coined to refer to those that capture people’s awareness and urge to move and call for change.

Even a day to day activity can be an inspiration to compose a song. Some songs in our country tackled the lives of OFWs, the art of motherhood, teenage problems, and even the lives of our country folks. The world can influence a song, as much as a song can move the world.

Composing is like adding melody in a poem. It is a form of a literary piece accompanied by notes, rhythm, harmony and tone. What you express with just mere words can turn to extra ordinary when you say it in a song.

Just like how songs were used in courtship, expressing purity and sincerity of love among Filipinos. Different songs have already paved way to many successful love stories, some even marked an important memory and event in their lives. And in some instances, songs served as a comfort for those who were gone unfortunate in loving.

That’s also a reward for being a well known song writer, being a part of the lives of the ordinary to extraordinary people, transcending boundaries like gender, age, social and cultural diversity among people.

Being a skilled composer requires talent, perseverance, determination and love for this craft. Although this field is dominated mostly by men, it should never be an issue of gender.

Famous people in this field, includes Ryan Cayabyab, Joey Ayala, Mike Hanopol, Ely Buendia of Eraserheads, Levi Celerio, Gary Granada and Freddie Aguilar among others. All of them have developed their own style according to their chosen type of music.

Who made names in the Local Music Scene

In a genre where men are dominant, it’s not that easy for women to stand out amidst the heavy guitar riffs and solos of the rock music, the deafening voice that speaks for the songs and the rockers who already made a name in the music scene. How will women keep up with men who share the same passion for a particular genre?

Asin, Sampaguita, Cinderella and Hotdog, some of the Filipino bands who had women as lead, started all of this. They were the proof that women don’t have to scream or roar their lungs out and copy the style of men in performing rock songs in order for them to make names and be noticed. With their original songs and music, they have shown their creativity in performing rock with the feminine touch, unique, soft and matchless style but can still be distinguished as Rock. Because of this, women gained respect from men and even made men support women rockers not only because of physical appearance but most especially with their talents.

Time passed by, taste of people in music changed and years after the decline of OPM in the music industry, new breed of talents revived the Filipino Music Scene. And who are the Pinay Rockers who pursued their passion in rock music? Let me give you the list of the Modern Pinay Rockers who continue to rock the house down:

Barbie Almalbis, a solo artist who was once the front of the bands like Hungry Young Poets and Barbie’s Cradle, popularized “Firewoman”, “Torpe” and “Limang Dipang Tao” and despite her status in life, still managed to give us good music.

The multi-awarded, Kitchie Nadal who one the Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist for her well known single, “Wag na Wag Mong Sasabihin” in the PARI 18th Awit Awards way back 2005 and Best Song written for Movie/TV/Stage Play for the song “Majika” on PARI 20th Awit Awards last 2007.

Lougee Basabas, the vocalist of De Lara (formerly known as Mojofly) popularized the songs “Mata”, “Tumatakbo” and “Minamalas”. Despite all the struggle Mojofly has faced, they stood tall and continue to play the music they truly love.

Aia De Leon and Myrene Academia of the band, Imago and Sandwich (Myrene) who were known for the songs “Akap”, “Sundo” and “Taralets”. Aia won as the Vocalist of the Year on 2001 in NU 107 Rock Awards and Rock Female Icon of the year on 2005 NU 107 Rock Awards. Myrene on the other hand, won the Bassist of the Year on 2006 NU 107 Rock Awards.

Hannah Romawac of Session Road came all the way from Baguio to share her band’s music with all of the people who have the ears to listen. Because of perseverance, her band earned numbers of Awards from prestigious Award-giving-bodies for Music.

And lastly, Maychelle Baay, the new vocalist of Moonstar 88 (after Acel Bisa), popularized “Migraine” added up with the already known singles of Moonstar 88 which are “Torete” and “Sulat”. It’s really amusing how a girl with a voice like of an angel, managed to stand out in Rock Music.

These women are the major influence of the up and coming bands who aspire to follow their footsteps in the Music Scene. The new generation of Pinay Rockers inspired the youth who loves music to continue what their hearts desire and be productive with the help of Pinay Rocker’s sole Music.
